This book has two parts: the ecology of Montaillou, the house & the shepherd; an archaeology of Montaillou, from body language to myth. Montaillou was first published by Editions Gallimard in 1978 as Montaillou, village occitan de 1294 a 1324. This translation by Barbara Bray was first published by the Scolar Press in 1978. The text of this Folio edition follows that of the 1980 edition, published by Penguin Books, with minor emendations.
